The Dark Situation

Harnessing energy is a means to develop one’s country because it allows the use of new technologies, promote education, develop infrastructure and improve the standard of living.  So here are the facts about Indonesia. 35 % of the total population has no access to electricity. These Indonesians live in the dark because the energy supply can’t keep up with the growing demand and of the existing poverty in the country. Of the 240, 271, 522 individuals residing in the country, 14.5 % of them are living below the poverty line. These aren’t just numbers, they are human beings.

An Enlightening Solution

The “Seeds for Light” program will educate a chosen village, who has no access to electricity, on how to extract biodiesel from Jatropha Plant.  A percentage of the biodiesel will be sold to financially sustain the village while the remaining percentage will be used to power the generator provided to them by this program. This program will address the issues of poverty, environmental instability and the energy crisis. jatropha biofuel process flowchart
The Illuminated Future

The chosen village will serve as a beacon of light to all Indonesians by setting an example of how the use of renewable source of energy can beneficial. Not only will this idea improve the quality of people’s lives, it will also aid Indonesia in addressing two of its Millennium Goals: 1) Eradicating poverty and hunger; and 2) Ensuring environmental sustainability. The future of Indonesia may just get brighter. illuminator18900.0

Sounds good, just wondering why not also take a cut of the profit from the village and use that money to expand to other villages, as more and more villagers have generators the time between purchasing a new generator will become shorter and shorter.
