Kaplan has online SAT preparation courses already. All you need to do is to get that information cheaper. Reinventing the wheel isn't required.

Kaplan has a monopoly on SAT prep and all other standardized tests prep courses, books, etc. I think this is a great idea, perhaps expanding it to the ACT (SAT scores are not always required) and other graduate level tests (GRE and LSAT) will not only attract more students but encourage low income and disadvantaged undergraduate students to further their education. Perhaps this is an area for futher expansion. :) Good Luck

Providing test prep that is marketed directly to the target audience of low income youth is exceptional. Through strategic partnerships and a social benefit focus, this venture strikes me as one that will be very effective at reaching and motivating greater numbers of at-risk youth to take the SAT and to pursue college. It will also prove to be a great resource for colleges seeking to expand the economic diversity of their student population. I also love the name of the organization which reflects the level of preparation many of the students may have when entering the SAT testing. By giving young people the free tools to understand the format of the testing and preparation materials to excel on the subjects tested, Ineedapencil.com is literally opening minds and doors to the possibility of college.

I Need A Pencil is really executing a greater vision: a vision to end education inequality in America, an issue that has been a grave obstacle to our social progress. If as a nation America hopes to overcome the disparity in educational opportunities between the well-off, the poor and the working class, and disadvantaged minorities, it will take leaders like this sincere entrepreneur to close the gap and empower pupils with vast potential, but perhaps without the money, to rise up and contribute to the welfare of our society as a whole. America is a land of opportunity, and depriving students from underprivileged backgrounds access to SAT Prep, America is de facto discriminating against whole segments of our population. We should not stand for this, but rather support leaders like this one to bring equality in opportunity for all. It is a principle on which our country was built, and if we hope to see our country flourish in the future, we must tackle this problem with utmost urgency.

Social ventures succeed when two elements collide: an effective solution to a pressing problem and an incredible leader. Ineedapencil.com has both of these elements. The achievement gap in America is horrifying and ineedapencil.com already has a track record of reversing this trend. Jason has proven that he's passionate, strategic, and hard working. For these reasons, I believe that ineedapencil.com deserves to win the social innovation competition.

I have worked with Jason and Ineedapencil to support our teens at Crossroads for Kids. He has discovered a truly innovative way to level the playing field for young people who can't afford some high cost prep courses, and has given them a chance to get the tools and tips that every teen should have access to. I am sure that given an opportunity like this, Jason will further his reach, scope and vision for Ineedapencil in remarkable ways. He will make the best of this opportunity, if given the chance.
