Dream

Everyone has a dream with the power to change the world. What's yours?

Are you one of a new breed of entrepreneurs who dream up ingenious solutions to the world's most difficult problems, then make it happen? Are you a social entrepreneur?

Social entrepreneurs are all around us. In Kenya, Martin Fisher and Nick Moon introduced a low-cost manual water pump that can double the yield of a small farm. Matt Flannery created Kiva.org, an online system that lets you lend money directly to entrepreneurs in the developing world. In Paraguay, Martin Bert teaches the poor how to make money off their land with a system of agricultural schools.

Each of these exceptional individuals represents a new breed of entrepreneur, the social entrepreneur. Social entrepreneurs are people who identify large-scale societal problems and develop innovative solutions to fix them. Just as business entrepreneurs use their skills to make a profit, social entrepreneurs work toward a goal of affecting wide-ranging, scalable social change, frequently in fields that have been underserved by government or business.

Social entrepreneurs often focus on areas where the problems appear too entrenched or too complex. As a result, their solutions tend to be revolutionary - forging a new path that combines visionary creativity with real world problem-solving skills. Social entrepreneurs are risk-takers who are passionate about helping people. They not only dream up ground-breaking solutions but also possess the fortitude and personality to mobilize people and resources to see their ideas through to reality.
